Big Issues in Retail

What are the big issues faced by retailers in New Zealand and internationally? The Centre for Advanced Retail Studies (CARS) leads an number of initiatives to isolate and debate the Big Issues, and also provides a platform to bridge the academic-practitioner divide.

The annual Big Issues in Retail survey

The Centre for Advanced Retail Studies is proud to partner with the ACRS, Monash University (Melbourne), and Retail NZ, to present the ‘Big Issues in Retail Survey’.

The research sought to capture the key priorities, issues, challenges and opportunities for New Zealand retailers. Over time the information and data provided by the respondents to this survey will create a snapshot of the retail sector, helping us to understand the specific needs and requirements of those involved. It enables Massey and Monash Universities to ensure they continue to undertake research that is important to the retail industry, and provide relevant educational and training degrees, designed for those who wish to make a career of - or grow their professional development skills - within the retail sector, now and into the future.

It's also important for Retail NZ to gather information about the trends in retail. This helps them identify the issues that are important to retailers, so they can lobby central and local government of their behalf.

The first annual survey was completed in January 2016. The early results will be presented at Retail NZ’s shop.kiwi International Forum, on the 16th February in Auckland.
