The PhD is a 360 credit (3 years full-time), purely research based qualification that is based on the submission and examination of a 100,000 word thesis (either monograph or thesis with publications). It is independently examined by a panel of 3 examiners. Entry criteria include a relevant Honours or Masters (B+ minimum), and significant independent research experience.
The Doctor of Clinical Psychology (DClinPsych) programme is a 360 credit professional qualification that prepares people to integrate practice and research in their careers as clinical psychologists. Entry criteria include a relevant Bachelors, Honours, Masters, or PhD in psychology or its equivalent as well as some entry level coursework. The programme is made up of course work, case studies, an internship and a 65,000 word thesis. Prospective applicants for the DClinPsych should contact the DClinPsych Clinical Coordinator in the School of Psychology in the first instance.
Massey University’s prestigious Doctor of Social Work (DSW) is the first social work doctorate offered in New Zealand and is recognised internationally.
The DSW is a 360 credit programme, consisting of a combination of course work and a 65,000 word research thesis. It offers a curriculum designed to reflect the latest international developments in social work, social development theory and practice with the purpose of advancing practitioners knowledge at a local, national and international level and allowing them to deliver state-of-the-art solutions.
