All staff and students conducting research involving the importation or development of low risk genetically modified organisms (GMOs) in containment must ensure that their work is done in such a way that any adverse effect on the environment is minimised as specified in the Hazardous Substances and New Organisms (HSNO) Act.
The Code of Ethical Conduct for Research, Teaching and Evaluations involving Human Participants has been developed to ensure that research, teaching and evaluation activities undertaken by staff and students of Massey University are consistent with Section 6 of the Education Act 1989.
The Code outlined in this document has been drafted to comply with the Animal Welfare Act 1999, together with an interpretation, "Codes of Ethical Conduct for Manipulation of Animals", provided by the National Animal Ethics Advisory Committee. The Code is administered by the Animal Ethics Committee. Its composition, terms of reference and procedures are set down in subsequent sections of this document.
The Code of Responsible Research Conduct is intended to express the principles detailed in the Massey University Charter as well as those of academic freedom and research integrity, standards and responsibilities, and to provide supportive, helpful guidance on what constitutes internationally accepted responsible research conduct.

The University encourages the professional management of its intellectual property (IP). One option is to set up a new company to implement the commercial development of University IP. This policy contains the specific conditions under which this can be done.
Principles for the distribution of PBRF funding (staff only)
Ensures that all Research and Consultancy work carried out by staff at Massey University maintains or enhances the reputation of the University and that this work does not compromise either the staff members who undertake this work or the units within which they work.
Establishes principles for supervised graduate research at sub PhD level and to raise staff and student awareness of some basic issues and conditions that are integral to a quality supervised graduate research culture.
Ensures appropriate use of funds from external research and consultancy contracts, including exhibitions and the like; To manage risk associated with liability resulting from unspent research and consultancy income; To ensure that academic staff undertaking research or consulting contracts receive appropriate workload relief from normal duties and/or recognition for additional duties.
