Career and Employability Service - Employers' Frequently Asked Questions

Any questions? If you don't find the answer below, we'll do all that we can to help, so please contact us.

Q: We want to recruit a student or a graduate. Can you help?

A: Absolutely! We would be very keen to help. To publicise your vacancy we would use the NZUniCareerHub portal. This is basically a 'one-stop-shop' through which you can access the students and recent graduates of seven of New Zealand’s eight universities. Note that using this to advertise most internships; scholarships; voluntary work and roles within charitable and not-for-profit organisations is free of charge.

In addition, we offer a range of other services to employers and you can access details of these here.

Q: Can you advise us on how we might attract the best applicants through a job posting?

A: Yes we can, and you can access information on this here. See also, the terms and conditions for using the NZ Uni CareerHub portal for this purpose.

Q: Can you tell us about the qualifications that Massey graduates may have?

A: Massey University offers the broadest range of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in New Zealand, totalling in excess of 100 degrees, diplomas and certificates.

Many of our teaching and research programmes are characterised by their applied nature and we have special expertise in the areas of technology, science, applied science and business studies. You can find out more about our programmes here.

Q: Does your service organise career expos?

A: This varies from campus to campus. We hold an annual Volunteer expo on each campus, a general career expo on our Manawatu campus every May, and an Accountancy and Finance one on our Albany campus in March or April every year. Please contact us for more information on these.

Note too, that you can access information on almost all of the NZ university career expos here.

Q: My organisation would like to host a recruitment presentation on campus. Can you help?

A: We would love to discuss this with you. Simply choose the Massey campus (or campuses) on which you’d like to do this, then contact the Careers Consultant based there to explore what's possible.

You may also be keen to take an active part in the student workshops and seminars that we run regularly on each of our campuses. These cover a broad range of career and employment topics and can offer an invaluable way of meeting students interested in your specific field; in what you are looking for in future employees and in your advice on job search and selection. To find out more and explore the possibilities, please contact us.

Q: Will your service pre-select students for jobs that we have?

A: No, we do not pre-select students or graduates for any employer. Note too that we’re unable to verify that any job applicants from Massey are legally entitled to work in New Zealand and that we do not accept any liability whatsoever in this regard. You can access advice on employing international students and/or graduates here and here.

Q: Can you verify for us that a job applicant from Massey is legally entitled to work in NZ?

A: No – we’re afraid that we’re unable to verify this and please note that we do not accept any liability whatsoever in this regard. You can access advice on employing international students and/or graduates at the Department of Labour website and at the Immigration New Zealand website.

Q: What other services do you offer to employers?

A: We really appreciate, and welcome, the opportunity to work with organisations such as yours and we can offer you a wide range of services. More information on these can be accessed here or by contacting us. We’d also be keen to explore with you, any other ways in which we might work together.
