Any questions? If you don't find the answer below, we'll do all that we can to help, so please contact us.

Q: How can the Career Service help me?

A: If you are a Massey student, or recent Massey graduate, we offer you access to a wide range of careers information, advice and guidance services free-of-charge. No matter what stage you are at in studies or career thinking these services can assist you with career choice and development; exploring your skills, values, interests and career options; finding work of any type and researching further study options. Find out more here.

Q: What services does the Career Service offer me?

A: We can help you to explore your career and further study options; build your skills; develop your employability and gain the experience employers look for.  In addition to offering you one-to-one help we offer you access to job opportunities; advice on finding and applying for work and we facilitate a broad range of events including career expos, workshops, seminars and talks. More information on these can be accessed under the ‘jobs’ and ‘events’ tabs on Massey CareerHub.

Q: How do I contact a Careers Adviser?

A: We have a Careers Consultant on each of the three Massey campuses and, where practicable, attending our events can be a great way of meeting them.  Coupled with this, each one can assist you on a one-to-one basis by telephone; email or – if you are based on or near one of our campuses – in a face-to-face capacity.  You can access our contact details here.Massey students and graduates based on, near or visiting a Massey campus can book face-to-face appointments on-line by using the appointments tab on Massey CareerHub

Grant and John can also assist you via Skype (on request).

Q: Can the Career Service find me a job?

A: No – but we can help you to find work of any type.  This includes part-time and voluntary work; internships; gap-year and vacation work; graduate employment and work in NZ and abroad.  Many employers ask us to advertise jobs on their behalf and these are posted on Massey CareerHub.  We can advise you on additional sources of vacancies and on creative job search techniques.

Q: The careers advice that I need concerns my courses/programme or changing/leaving the course that I am on.  Can you help?

A: Whilst we can assist you with advice on the career implications of choosing/changing your programme or courses, we strongly recommend that you make contact with Academic Adviser colleagues from the university’s Student Advice and Information Unit.  They are based on each campus and they can also advise you on graduation; credit for previous study; progression between qualifications and planning and sequencing your course choices.  Access their contact details here.

Q: I have no idea what I want to do – can you help me?

A: Yes!  In the first instance, take a look at our ‘Get Started’ resources, which you can access here. Then, you may also want to access the 'Plan your career' resources on the CareersNZ website. Rest assured that many people feel the same, and we can certainly help if you contact us.

Q: I don’t think that my qualification is relevant to any career! What can I do?

A: Don't worry.  A (perhaps) surprisingly large number and range of careers are open to graduates from any subject. We can advise you on these and on a range of sources of information on options with your subject, including sites such as No Major Drama.  In addition, we can advise you on other issues to consider in career choice; the NZ labour
market; what graduate employers want and how to find and apply for work.

Q: Can you help me with my CV?

A: Yes.  You can access information on CV and cover letter development here and we run regular seminars on this topic on each campus.  Details of these seminars can be accessed via the ‘events’ tab on Massey CareerHub, and an on-line version of one can be accessed here. We can also review your CV and cover letter with you face-to-face if you book an appointment with us (via the ‘appointments’ tab on Massey CareerHub) or by email if you contact us. Please note that we have to limit the number of times we will review your CV for you, and that we ask you to allow up to five days for comments on any CVs emailed to us to be sent to you.  For more information on this please contact us.

Q: Can you help me to prepare for an interview or an assessment centre?

A: Absolutely!  Information on preparing for interviews can be accessed here and for assessment centres and selection tests here. Coupled with this, we run regular seminars on interview preparation on each campus.  Details of these seminars can be accessed via the ‘events’ tab on Massey CareerHub, and we have on-line interview and assessment centre seminars available. We can also offer you advice on these topics face-to-face if you book an appointment with us (via the ‘appointments’ tab on Massey CareerHub) or by email if you contact us.

Q: I want to work at Massey.  Can you help?

A: We do not deal with recruitment into Massey.  You can access information on this here. However, from time to time, vacancies at the university are posted on Massey CareerHub and we can also advise you on a range of
voluntary roles at Massey that are open to current students.

Q: I am an employer and I want to recruit a student or a graduate.  Can you help?

A: Absolutely! We would be very keen to help. To publicise your vacancy we would use the  NZUniCareerHub portal. This is basically a 'one-stop-shop' through which you can access the students and recent graduates of seven of New Zealand’s eight universities.  Note that using this to advertise most internships; scholarships; voluntary work and roles within charitable and not-for-profit organisations is free of charge. In addition, we offer a range of other services to employers and you can access details of these here.

We would really appreciate the opportunity to work with you so please contact us if you feel that we could help you in any way.

Q: I am a distance student.  Are your services available to me?

A: We would love to and you can contact any of the team for help.  You can access our contact details here.  Where you are based on, near or are visiting a Massey campus we can meet with you face-to-face and we would love to see you at any of our events that are taking place there.

Q: Does the Career Service have a presence on social media?

A: We certainly do, and we encourage you to like us on Facebook and/or follow us on Twitter.  In addition, where you are based in or near Wellington we ask that you consider joining our Careers@Massey Wellington LinkedIn group. Our social media presence is a great way of accessing a wealth of career-related resources; information and links and of engaging with us.

Q: I want to work whilst I study.  Can you help me to find internships, placements and work experience?

A: Without a doubt, and it’s great that you are thinking that way! Access a wide range of work experience opportunities through the ‘jobs’ tab on Massey CareerHub and take a look at the additional information here
This includes information on how to find, and make the most, of such experience.
